Crispy Cones News Report

Alli Whiting - Crispy Cones report
The purpose of this project was to develop animation skills by working between Adobe After Effects and Adobe Illustrator. We did this by creating a set of assets in Illustrator that could be turned into a motion graphic in After Effects. I chose a Brigham Young University-Idaho student, Alli Whiting, and a news report she did on a local company "Crispy Cone."
Sketches and Story Board
To successfully create graphics to animate Alli's report, I was given a set of guidelines. These guidelines include; lower thirds, data visuals, kinetic typography, and well designed assets. The first step to following these guidelines is creating sketches that can match the information given in the news report.
Due to the report being based on Crispy Cone, I decided to focus a lot of my sketches on icecream, I included this is my data visuals, location markings on states, and my lower thirds. I also thought of creative ways to include important facts Alli mentioned, things like shark tank, growth, how the company started, etc. My next step was to make a story board, where the assets would appear within the report.
Once I had mapped out everything between my assets and how I would make them graphics. I was ready to actually create my images
Vector Assets
The assets were created in Adobe Illustrator, there I can make Vector based images that are easy to transfer to After Effects. I planned to create the Crispy Cones logo as closely as I could to the physical logo, to help show the creators. As I designed my assets I aimed for eye friendly visuals, that when imported to After Effects, it wouldn't draw viewers attention away from the story.
Motion Graphic Final
After presenting my assets to my classmates, I received some feedback. One major thing I received was making all of my ice cream cones uniform, so as I finished my project I changed colors of some of the ice cream cones and sizes of the ice cream more like the logo. I also completely cut out the shark tank animation, instead I included more visuals that represented the topic.
